カールステン・ニコライ｜Carsten Nicolai 1965年現ケムリッツ、ドイツ生まれ。同地およびベルリン在住。科学的、哲学的観点から、視覚と聴覚、秩序と無秩序、自然と科学といった二極が交差する作品を制作している。1986年より各国で個展を開催し、第49回ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレ（2001年）など国際展にも多数参加。一方でサウンド・アーティスト「noto」、「alvanoto」としても活動し、コンサートや美術館での展示を行い、池田亮司、坂本龍一ともコラボレーションを行っている。 Born in Chemnitz, Germany in 1965, he lives in Chemnitz and Berlin. He uses scientific and philosophical viewpoints to produce works dealing with the dichotomies of hearing and sight, order and disorder, or nature and science. He began holding solo exhibitions around the world from 1986, while also participating in various international events, such as 49th Venice Biennale (2001). At the same time, he is active as a sound artist, working under the names 'noto' and 'alva noto'. He also works in collaboration with Ryoji Ikeda and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
